SC0213

Minatogawa Shrine presentation sword.

This sword has a habaki with Minatogawa crest and is believed to be a presentation sword to Minatogawa Shrine.

Since ancient times, it was a Japanese custom to present important swords to prominent people on special occasions and to Shrines and Temples.

About "This sword":

It was said that this sword was taken from the shrine by some rogue US soldier during WW2. It was sold after the passing of the veteran.

The blade is mounted in a beat up aged shirasaya and has a habaki with embossed crest of Mintogawa Shrine.

The blade has some minute nicks and wounds, probably by family members of the veteran playing with it.

It was in a state of neglect. I polished off the minute nicks with hazuya and brighten up the surface but leaving couple of deeper wounds as that would requires a professional polishing job. The hamon has lots of activities on it.

Shall be sending it to shinsa and polish in Japan.

The sword is signed and dated.
