In the 30s, Xu Beihong came to Singapore and Malaya frequently to raise fund for the war.
He will paint a small piece like this plum blossom to any donor who donated $5 and a bigger one depicting a horse for $50. Xu held many exhibitions and sale proceeds were donated to victims of the war.
A friend inherited a horse painting whch was recently sold at auction for more than HK$12million.
One very interesting fact is, there are more paintings of his in Singapore and Malaysia than any other countries.
