This is a very hefty and healthy blade with hi groove and with tachi signature "Kanesada". There are many smiths by the name of Kanesada from the Muromachi era to Edo period.
The blade has a length of 67.5cm and is in its old polish with suguha hamon running the whole cutting edge.
The owner was a senior officer from a samurai background as indicated by a family mon on the handle. He was probably not much involved in field operation as the aluminum saya is in excellent condition with no dent except some paint loss due to age. The blade is very healthy with couple of minute nicks.
A suede combat mount was custom made to protect the sword which comes with a colonel tassle attached. The original tassle is quite worn out and replaced with an after market.
I shall be sending this sword to Japan for shinsa.
The signature is still subtly visible due to the corrosion on the tang. "Sada is very however very clear as depicted in the photo.
