SC0166
Superior grade sword by Kanemichi, rated as a Yen 2 million sword smith in the book by John Scott Slough.
A Yen 1 million smith like is considered as very good and could be sent for shinsa and papered. Yen 2 million smith's swords are often considered as superior, much better in quality than swords made a few hundred years ago.
A sword made by a Yen 2 million smith is much sought after by collectors and prices shooting through the roof.
During WW2, officers in all services were required to buy their own sword and those from well to do family background would order a good quality blade from a well known smith.
This blade was originally mounted in a military mounting. For a high grade blade, I feel it deserve to be mounted in a samurai koshirae and keeping the army mounting as optional.
War is cruel and most of the swords in my collection were involved in fierce battles during WW2 and probably had killed many people. A prayer is usually said to pacify before I start the restoration work.
Length of cutting edge is 26.5 inches and very sharp.
Blade was out of polish and after restoration, it is now in mint condition with several minute battle cuts on the shinogi and mune (spine) that are faintly visible.
Battle scars I would prefer to retain if they don't affect the appearance much and as an honorably testimony for the sword. Cuts on mune are usually left alone by professional polisher so as not to remove too much steel.
