In the earlier years, watch manufacturers wanting to sell their watches at lower prices, laid thin strips of gold on the lugs of their watches fixed with a low karat gold bezel. It gave the watch an expensive look and yet at a much lower price if compared to a full gold piece.
In 1940s to 50s, Movado produced moonphase wristwatches in 2 models, snap on back model and water-resistant case model and in various sizes. This watch has a water-resistant case.
