SC0081
The blade is patterned after the shape of the Nagamaki, the powerful long-handled sword with strongly relieved shinogi-ji and diamond-shaped kissaki.
The Unokubi-Zukuri shape provides excellent balance and strong cutting ability. The back of the blade is very different from the normal katana, that a third of mune, way down, it thins out rapidly into a long thin false edge. The end tip, couple of inches of the mune, flares into a diamond shaped kissaki.
The length of the unsigned straight blade is 27.5 inches and despite its 500 years vintage, it is healthy, strong and very sharp
From the overall mint condition of the sword and its mounting, this sword seemed to have belonged to a commanding officer who was not involved in field action.
