SC0062

Nobumitsu WW2 Japanese Army Officer Sword

A very surdy WW2 gunto with striking red handle wrap and a rare gunny fiber protective cover.

This is type 44 made in late war to meet the heavy demand. An order was given to produce a sturdy sword without the fancy frills.... to keep it simple for combat action and could be produced fast. It was copied from the ancient Jin Tachi. The katatemaki wrap is also different from other types and lacquered for water proofing. This sword comes with a gunny fiber protective cover.

The tip of the type 44 blade has a longer turn back feature for potential repair. Despite its age, it's overall condition is tip top and the cutting edge is very sharp.

The blade has a showa inspection stamp and signed by the smith, Nobumitsu.

This is sometimes mistakenly called as Naval landing force sword because of its tsuba is similar to that of the naval swords but it has nothing to do with the navy.

It is dated 1945, few swords were produced in this final year of the war making it a rare historical piece.
