SC0147

Rai school koto in military mount

This sword was acquired in a closed door pawn shop auction in Japan and due to neglect in the prolonged depressive Japanese economy, the blade has developed some surface rust that was easily removed.

The very sharp blade was originally much longer and has been shortened at one time. It has a suguha hamon with small ashi. It seems to be the work of Rai Kunimitsu, student of Rai Kunitoshi and he worked from 1326-1352.

Just my personal guess and would leave it to the scholars as this sword is a good candidate for shinsa.
