This type of miniature naval sword was carried by Japanese naval midget submarine crew for suicide mission during WW2 and is very seldom seen on the market as most of the midget submarines would have sunk and lying on ocean bed.
The saya is polished ray skin wrapped just like the kai gunto...with some glue stain.
The old family blade is signed and the cutting edge is 45cm long.
It is possibly a custom ordered from a submarine crew member.
Upon close examination, everything is original and not modified.
