Rolex ref. 6062, steel
In the 1950s, Rolex produced 2 models of Triple calender with moonphase feature.
Ref 6062 has an oyster water-resistent case and ref.8171 has a snap on back case which is non water-resistent.
Ref.6062 were produced in yellow gold, pink gold and steel. Of all the examples of ref.6062 that were known to the market, mostly are in yellow gold, few in pink gold and about 50 steel examples have surfaced so far.
In the records of the case makers, Genex and Charles Rene Spillmann, some two tone cases were produced in very small numbers. I did come across a two tone steel 8171 with a gold bezel but due to lack of information at that time, I did not buy it.
Over the last 30 plus years, I have sold 3 yellow gold, 1 pink gold with star dial, 1 steel with with star dial and 2 movements. This said watch was sold to a Japanese friend and I bought it back 18 years ago.
Early days Rolex watches have a lot of inconsistencies and it is believed that Rolex didn't keep proper record. I have written to Rolex about the number of steel pieces produced and the reply I received was " It's confidential".
This watch was fully restored and serviced by Rolex Heritage Department in Genve through Rolex Service Center, Singapore.
This watch came with its original Rolex vintage Jubilee bracelet which is in good condition.
The last photo depicts the steel example with star dial that I have sold to a Japanese customer. That watch's serial no. was next to my current piece.
Many rare Rolex watches passed through my hands, and I would say, Rolex 6062 is emotionally closest to my heart.
