SC0074
A beautiful Koto in military mount, signed Motoshige (Gimei), in gunto mount.
The signature of this sword doesn't look right and it was removed and submitted for sHINSA in Sept 2019.paper as a mumei koto.
NBTHK attributed this blade to "UDA HIRAKUNI".
This beautiful old koto sword blade has a wonderful shape with Bohi (gooves). The temperline is a nice Suguha with great Hada grain with lots of activities!
The blade is signed " Bishu Osafune, Motoshige"
Nagasa: 27"(68cm). Mihaba: 1.21" (3.09cm). Kasane: .27"(6.83mm).
Motoshige didn't make sword of this short length and this looks more like a Muromachi era blade after some research.
An appraisal by NBTHK attributed this sword to Uda Hisakuni.
The mounts are clean. It has a pierced/open work tsuba (usually found on higher grade mounts) and the
rare (orange & brown ) colonel's tassel
Every collection is an adventure with many pitfalls and a learning process.
